Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University and is a registered Professional Engineer in New York. Ep24 – Pedro Montenegro – Road Safety in Europe
Pedro Montenegro is a road safety consultant based in Porto, Portugal. He has been helping commercial and private-citizen drivers become safer operators of motor vehicles for more than twenty years. Pedro leverages the power of social media on a daily basis to share his message about critical driving safety issues impacting Portugal, Europe and the world. He has amassed more than 15,000 followers on LinkedIn. In this episode, we discuss the driving culture in Portugal and the most common unsafe driving behaviors seen on the roads and highways. We also talk about Pedro’s approach to driver training and how he helps companies and their fleet drivers improve safety and overall operations.
Ep23 – Michael Kitching – Road Safety
Michael Kitching is a pilot in the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force (RAF). Over the years, his assignments have included C-17 Captain, Deputy Flight Commander, Air Safety Assurance Team Leader and Flight Commander Assurance (99 Squadron). Today, he is the Multi Engine Lead for the RAF Safety Centre. Michael actively leverages his knowledge and passion for aviation safety by applying it to road safety. Currently, he volunteers for three nonprofit organizations working to improve driving safety in the UK. In this episode, we talk about the state of road safety around the world and what it will take to make transportation safer. Along the way, Michael demonstrates the parallels between aviation and driving.
Ep22 – Ron Eagleye Johnny – Road Safety
Ron Eagleye Johnny is the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Rescue Chief for the Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone Tribe in Nevada. His decorated career spans each of the past six decades. Eagleye has been a police officer, courtroom judge and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In each role he has gained unique perspectives on the topic of road safety. Eagleye is a US Air Force veteran and holds an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and a Law Degree from the University of Denver. In this episode, we discuss the overall driving culture in the United States and how it has changed since the 1970s.
Ep21 – Paul Grattan – High-Speed Pursuits
Paul Grattan is a sergeant and 18-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. Over his career in law enforcement, his assignments have included patrol, narcotics, undercover, community policing and communications. Sergeant Grattan is also the Northeast Representative for Pursuit Alert, a technology that alerts nearby motorists and the local community when a high-speed pursuit is underway. In this episode, we talk about the surprising frequency of police chases, the toll they take on police officers and innocent bystanders, and how technology is being employed by police departments to protect the public during high-speed pursuits.
Ep20 – Michael DeKort – Autonomous Vehicles
Michael DeKort is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Dactle, a company committed to the “safe, ethical and efficient development and verification of autonomous vehicles and UAVs through the use of aerospace, Department of Defense (DoD) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) simulation technology.” In this episode, Michael issued a sobering warning to the public. He believes that if the autonomous vehicle industry continues to conduct real-world testing to gather the data required to build software algorithms that safely operate fully autonomous, Level 5 vehicles, thousands of innocent lives will be lost.

Scott Savage is a police officer in the Silicon Valley area with more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement. Over his illustrious career in public safety, Scott’s assignments have included SWAT, Crisis Negotiation, Vice, Narcotics, Surveillance, Terrorism and Intelligence, and Officer Training.
